The VLBA Lab is an organizational unit within the Department of Technical and Business Information Systems (ITI) at the Faculty of Computer Science (FIN) at the Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg (OvGU). Within the scope of applied research with and for industry partners, VLBA researchers are primarily engaged in designing, developing, and operating very large business application systems and system landscapes. Very large business applications (VLBA) are characterized as follows:
- A VLBA’s size and growth are restricted neither by organizational nor technical constraints. They are of strategic significance to an organization or a network of organizations.
- Research topics at the VLBA Lab are concerned with all life cycle phases from design to operation and replacement.
Objects of research are also generated from the technological and business-related environment. Frankly, problems related to VLBA development and operation arise a fortiori from the availability of methods and technology. Transdisciplinary objectives are: How is a profit-effective VLBA composed of such methods and technologies? Are all necessary components available and, if not, how can they be implemented?
